A "Critical" List of Resolutions for #BackToWork

Estimated reading time 3:52 (Source: Read-o-Meter)

This is a list of back-to-work resolutions for those capable of laughing at themselves. Don't read it carefully, read it with a sense of humor. And don't take notes. Let yourself go. There's a prize.

  1. Stop making bloody lists once and for all.
  2. Stop thinking about work when I go back to work.
  3. Go back on vacation, the sooner the better.
  4. Vacation is what I need when I don't accept my job.
  5. Leave my phone at home at least once a month and not go back home for the phone.
  6. Get away from my phone and from any WIFI connection for a whole week before my presbyopia increases again.
  7. Not check social media messages when I get up in the morning, and even less so email. Not to mention Slack and Whatsapp.
  8. Finish reading at least 1 out of every 5 posts I start reading each day.
  9. Stop retweeting lists of back-to-work resolutions.
  10. Read more than one book at least once a year. A whole book (once a year does no harm).
  11. Unsubscribe from the endless list of newsletters I never check because I don't have time
  12. Stop complaining about not having time.
  13. Stop thinking that I can't read everything I would like to. Again, for lack of time.
  14. Spend my time planning my next vacation (a weekend counts as a vacation).
  15. Say NO at least a dozen times a day.
  16. Say Yes barely a couple of times a day.
  17. Not think about improving my salary but about reducing my needs. #substract
  18. Laugh more at my obsession with work.
  19. Laugh even more at myself, on top of my obsession with my work.
  20. Stop thinking about the colleague next to me and think more about the colleague in the mirror every morning.
  21. Have breakfast in the mornings and sleep at night.
  22. Talk less to myself and more to my neighbor.
  23. Go to the bathroom more often. What doesn't come out stays inside, and rots while it's there (like the obsession with work).
  24. Stop hunting for contacts on LinkedIn so I can offer them my services once they accept me.
  25. Find my passion again. And then devote time to it.
  26. I'm not short of a new job; I'm long on the obsession with thinking how good I am.
  27. Your boss doesn't need to adore you, it's enough that you respect yourself a little more than on the first day you came back from vacation.
  28. Give the person next to you a hand, without posting it on social media with the hashtag #Volunteering
  29. If I haven't influenced myself into leaving the job I complain about, how am I going to expect to influence others #Influencer
  30. Empty the backpack of obsessions I lug around and fill it with acceptance for the reproaches I make to myself every time I come back from vacation.
  31. Do some sport without posting it on social media and delete from my BIO the word #runner or #marathon, and even less #triathlon or #ironman (that borders on sociopathy).
  32. Laugh at myself more if I haven't laughed enough so far.
  33. Not think that there are toxic people, when I'm the most toxic one with myself every time I come back from vacation.
  34. Go back on vacation, the sooner the better. Again (I repeat: a weekend counts as a vacation).
  35. Accept that everything good I saw on vacation is down to my day-to-day short-sightedness.
  36. Spend more time playing every day and less time thinking, and even less talking to myself (especially if it's to reproach myself for something).
  37. Find a couple of gaps in the day to do nothing #DolceFarNiente
  38. Close my eyes and think that this list is one of so many. Maybe just one more.
  39. Sleep more than I slept last night thinking about going back to work.
  40. Stop networking for the sake of networking #networker
  41. And laugh at myself again. I'm the prime example of that list of resolutions never kept.
  42. And now have the courage not to wipe off this smile and to share this list as the first act of honesty with myself.

[PRIZE] This is possibly the only #BackToWork list in which you have possibly already fulfilled more than half of all the points.

Here's to me having a Good Day! And to you, who have read my list.

Note to self: subtract some self-importance. Everything is simpler. And more fun. Maybe my attitude has a lot to do with how I accept what I consider work.

Today I'm sure I can tick off more than twenty points on this list. It's all a matter of getting to it.

Chin up!
