All my life I have tried to escape an education model built on memorization and repetition, and here I am dragging my son into the very same trap. Those were the words an acquaintance used to describe his own experience. Being disconnected makes me lose the memory of lessons I thought I had nailed down for good.

We have been taught to minimize mistakes in a world where mistakes, learning and reacting fast are the very basis of value creation.

We build connections with friends, at work, at the next job (networking), and we have forgotten the most valuable connection of all: the one with ourselves.

We have plugged ourselves into a new reality nobody warned us would devour huge doses of attention: e-mail, WhatsApp, push notifications, social media, jobs that demand skills we never imagined we would need. Dis-CONNECTION becomes, up to a point, compulsory.

How can we blame ourselves for not having time to disconnect? Or is it that we simply haven't found one more excuse to give ourselves the gift of reconnecting?
